To be considered a Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon the Bourbon must meet all the legal standards for a Bourbon AND the requirements of the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897 for Bottled-In-Bond designations. The bourbon must be the product of one distiller, from one location, produced in a single year, aged 4 years or more in wood, in a bonded warehouse, with no additives except water, and bottled at exactly 100 proof! The Bottled-In-Bond Act was one of the very first consumer protection acts in the United States following prohibition. Today it remains a respected quality designation and a guarantee of production transparency.
